Most programs are encrypted and only subscribers can view them, whereas a few programs are transmitted freely to all. There are many good digital TV Receivers with Satellite reception available in the market. They are all directly compatible to your TV; they have a digital sound system as well. Some have video recorders and tuners in them. So actually you are buying an entire system.

A whole satellite system then consists of a satellite receiver box which connects to your TV, a satellite antenna which is outdoors and a remote control. Access to this signal is through a satellite provider for which one has to pay a subscription. Some of the choices currently available are DISH Network and DirecTV. Standard tuners or HD tuners are part of satellite receivers.

Some additional features are available nowadays like parental controls to block adult programs, interactive features, lists of favorites or picture-in-picture viewing. Sometimes satellite receivers can be attached to several TVs and with one receiver box it is possible for TVs in several rooms to be provided with programming.
